Sofia Vergara missed the Oscars because of a simple case of the flu, not a major illness as was reported, she explained on Twitter.

"Watching the Oscars at home so I don't give everyone the flu haha!" Vergara wrote at 8 p.m. Sunday night, 30 minutes before the 2013 Oscar ceremony began.

When news hit the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, site of the 2013 Oscars, that Vergara wasn't attending the awards show, rumors spread that the sex symbol was hospitalized for some strange illness.

The rumor about the "Modern Family" actress was most likely prompted by a report in the Daily Mail.

Possibly to quell rumors that her flu was more serious than it was, Sofia also posted a photo of herself, home sick in bed from the illness Sunday night.

The photo may have had a different effect on some Twitter users than what Vergara was going for.

"Hottest sick face ever," tweeted jturtle03.

"You still look good! Flu or no flu!" wrote Twitter user odk2.

The Daily Mail report stated Vergara was out at BOA Steakhouse in West Hollywood on Friday night, with her fiancé Nick Loeb after filming for "Modern Family," when her health took a dramatic downturn.

The publication reports Sofia was even forced to receive surgery for her illness.

A source close to the star told HuffPost Celebrity that the Vergara mystery illness rumor was false.

"Sofia is fine and there is nothing to worry about," the source said.
