'Sailor Moon Crystal' Season 3 Remains Unconfirmed With Sailor Pluto Blu-Ray Announcement

Despite all the positivity that has come with the ability to license anime series, a negative result has finally surfaced:

Confusion about release schedules and official season numbers.

Earlier this year several websites confirmed that "Sailor Moon Crystal" season three was in the works based on a misunderstanding of wording on the official Toei Europe website. Unfortunately, it would appear that the concept of a new season is still merely a hope by diehard fans (myself included).

Meanwhile, the latest "Sailor Moon Crystal" Blu-ray has been scheduled for release, with artwork featuring Sailor Pluto (artwork pictured above). The 10th Blu-ray volume will be released in Japan on July 8.

Somewhat surprisingly, fans in an ANN forum are praising Sailor Pluto's artwork after mostly ciriticizing "Sailor Moon Crystal" for its poor animation.

"This cover is beautiful. It's a shame that the other covers (and you, know, the show in general) don't look like this, since this is really the quality I had expected from the show," said Rizuchan.

According to Anime News Network, "Sailor Moon Crystal" began streaming online in 2014. The reboot of the original manga by Naoko Takeuchi is directed by Munehisa Sakai with character designs by Yukie Sako. Music for the series is handled by Yasuharu Takanashi.

The main voice cast for "Sailor Moon Crystal" includes Kotono Mitsuishi as Usagi/Sailor Moon, Hisako Kanemoto as Ami/Sailor Mercury, Rina Satou as Rei/Sailor Mars, Ami Koshimizu as Makoto/Sailor Jupiter, Shizuka Itou as Minako/Sailor Venus, and Kenji Nojima as Mamoru/Tuxedo Kamen.

Viz Media describes "Sailor Moon Crystal" as follows:

"Based on Naoko Takeuchi's legendary manga series, 'Sailor Moon Crystal' retells the story of Sailor Moon as she searches for her fellow Sailor Guardians and the Legendary Silver Crystal to stop the dark forces of Queen Beryl."
