Hyolyn Of SISTAR On Why She Stopped Writing Songs After Being Rejected By The Group's Label Starship Entertainment

Any SISTAR fans disappointed in the lack of songs written by the K-pop girl group in their catalog can apparently blame their record label Starship Entertainment.

In a full-band interview Tuesday on the South Korean radio program "Two O' Clock Date with Park Kyung Lim," SISTAR vocalist Soyou first brought up the fact that her bandmate Hyolyn had taken a stab at songwriting.

"Hyolyn [has already been] working on her own music," Soyou said.

"She wrote a few songs, but the agency rejected them. I think she has her own distinct musical style."

Hyolyn herself was quick to pinpoint exactly why Starship was not on board with her compositions.

"The songs I make aren't dance tracks," she said.

"They're not mainstream. They're the kinds of songs our agency dislikes the most. Because we have to take the charts into consideration, they wouldn't put any of them on the album."

According to Hyolyn, she got so dismayed by her label's failure to take a chance on her experimental material that she abandoned her efforts to become a songwriter.

"I don't make music these days, because I lose my temper," she said, prompting laughs from the rest of the group.

Meanwhile, Soyou was going through her own personal hell, subjecting her body to a dangerously extreme health regiment, as she explained in a June 24 interview for the Korean cable network OnStyle.

"I worked out like crazy and didn't eat like crazy," Soyou said.

"From the moment I woke up to the moment I went to sleep, I did hot yoga, weight training, cardio, dance rehearsal and ran, on repeat...for food, I ate four quail eggs without the yolk and one cup of milk."

Finally, the SISTAR vocalist realized her pursuit of the perfect body was putting her health at risk.

"I realized that's not exercise and it's ruining my body," she said.

Five days later, on the South Korean radio program "Kim Chang Ryul's Old School," when asked if she was ever forced to perform despite experiencing physical pain, Soyou made it sound as if the norm.

"The four SISTAR members have a cool image," she said.

"There was a time I was really hurt, but I couldn't even show it. I'm the type that doesn't let [anyone know] for a few days behind the scenes."

Hyolyn attempted to laugh it off.

"Soyou is the type that thinks a lot," she said.
