High School Teacher Receives Backlash For EXO Test Question
A high school teacher reportedly landed in hot water and even risked dismissal after adding a question about popular K-pop boy band EXO on a music test, according to Koreaboo.
The incident was posted on the Sirgle website and fast became a trending topic on South Korean forums.
A fuming student created a topic titled "I got a question wrong because of this trashy question on a music test" and then attached a snapshot of the test question.
The EXO question read:
"In ( ), the group's promotions began when they became active under a certain big company. Starting from ( ), generation idols such as H.O.T, S.E.S, Fin.KL, and now ( ) EXO are the leading representatives of Hallyu in K-pop."
The ( ) sections indicated blanks which should be filled up with the correct dates or numbers.
"Because of this question, I failed to score 100 on my test. Does this make sense? How am I supposed to know how many EXO members there are?" asked the original poster in frustration.
Online commenters sympathized with the student and admonished the high school teacher for adding what they viewed as a question that only fans would know.
Commenters also complained that the question is also tricky due to the fluctuating number of EXO members. Two members, Kris (Wu Yi Fan) and Luhan, have left the group and are embroiled in a legal arbitration with SM Entertainment, while a third member Tao is inactive and rumored to be planning to depart from the group as well.
"It's not right to have an idol related question on a school test. Is this a music test or a groupie's test?" and "It would have been okay if the numbers were fixed" read some of the most upvoted forum comments.
