Fifty Shades Of Grey Meets Science Fiction In New Adult Romance Novel From Rebel Miller; New Author Brings Genre to a Whole New Dimension

Fifty Shades of Grey is about to get out of this world. Romance author Rebel Miller announced the release of her debut novel, "Awakening."

The new author hopes to fill a widening gap in the thriving new adult romance book genre. Sci-fi meets Fifty Shades of Grey?

"Well, there's a lot of sexual tension and it's set in the future, but the story is a lot more than just that!" Canadian author Rebel Miller said in a statement.

"Awakening is a coming-of-age romance that challenges what we know about love, sexuality and identity, but in a whole new time and space."

According to a survey that was recently published by New Adult Alley, readers are looking for more diversity in terms of sexual preferences, cultural backgrounds and settings.

Almost 40 percent of a targeted group of respondents were interested in stories in the non-contemporary category.

Miller hopes to meet that demand with her novel, Awakening.

"I love a sexy billionaire as much as the next girl, but there's a lot of angst-filled passion to be had with other types of alpha males as well," Miller said in a statement.

"I think romance readers are ready and looking for stories that go even deeper into exploring sexuality while at the same time navigating issues like a new career, family expectations and social relationships."

Awakening takes on compelling topics such as multiple partner relationships as well as sexual dominance and submission against the backdrop of a society ruled by a caste system and spread across multiple worlds.

"It's book one in a series about a young woman striking out on her own in a futuristic society called the Realm," Miller said in a statement.

"Kira, the protagonist, is like so many starting out - eager, passionate and ambitious, but finds herself on a tumultuous path that tests everything she knows about those she loves and the world she lives in."

Rebel Miller writes romances for the rebel at heart "While overindulging in Pinot Grigio and caramel popcorn, she binges on an eclectic mix of movies, music and, of course, angst-filled romance novels."

Miller earned a graduate degree in Communications and Culture from Ryerson University and an undergraduate degree from the University of the West Indies.

Rebel Miller writes about charismatic characters facing circumstances in settings that often turn social conventions on their head. Rebel lives in the outskirts of Toronto, Canada, with her husband and two sons. Awakening is her first novel.

Awakening is available everywhere eBooks are sold.
