Joe Calzaghe Weighs In On Manny Pacquiao Vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. Match: 'Floyd Is Just A Hard Man To Catch'

It is no secret that a number of fighters did not appreciate Manny Pacquiao's actions after his fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. last May 2. The American boxer defeated Pacquiao via unanimous decision while keeping his record unblemished.

Fighters and fans saw the fight from different perspectives. Some said it was simply a clinic by Mayweather Jr., some believes if Pacquiao was 100%, he would have beaten the American boxer. Lastly, some put all the blame to Pacquiao for not disclosing the injury and making it sound like an excuse why he lost the fight.

For Hall-of-famer Joe Calzaghe, he believes that Pacquiao could not just keep up with Mayweather's pace.

"I think it was a bit anti-climax. I think a lot of people think that," he said in Boxing Scene.

"I think in the first four rounds, Pacquiao had a good fourth and then in the fifth. But he just let Mayweather dictate the pace and that's why [Maywather] is a great fighter."

Back in his haydays, Calzaghe was one of the most unstoppable force in the middleweight division as he was able to wear the belt for over 10 years by successfully defending it 21 times in a row. With that, he is crowned as the longest reigning middleweight champion in history.

Calzaghe also said that the only concern about Mayweather's boxing style is only true boxing fans will see the greatness in him while others see him as the evasive, avoids contact type of fighter.

"He's an expert of timing and movement," he said. "He's very elusive, it's very hard to catch Floyd clean and he makes things look easy."

"I know the boxing purist appreciated the fight. I didn't expect a slugfest... But that's why Floyd Mayweather is undefeated -- he's a hard man to catch."
