Next Generation Of 'Smart' Canes Unveiled At Mobile World Congress: Getting Old Just Got A Lot Cooler [VIDEO]

Bluetooth, GPS, Wi-Fi and 3G are among some of the features offered in Fujitsu's Next Generation smart cane.

Although Fujitsu has not issued a date for when the cane of the future will be available, getting older just got a little easier with this prototype.

The creative invention was unveiled at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, according to BBC News. The equipment and service provider has created phones, storage hardware, microprocessors and more.

The Next Generation Cane will inform the user with directions on where it is they need to go. If that person needs to run to the store, but doesn't remember where exactly it was, the problem can be solved with the cane's GPS.

The smart cane also monitors heart rate and body temperature. Emergency services will reportedly be alerted if the cane detects the user fell over. The cane is also equipped with Wi-Fi.

Support, of course, will be a major component of the Next Generation Cane. Holding the person up right, not allowing them to fall over is always the most important factor in a good cane. This futuristic walking stick will be no different.

The smart cane forgoes the normal hook for your hand to grip. Instead, it looks more the end of a driver golf club.

If you see an old man with a cane talking talking to himself, in a few years it could be because somebody is on the other line, listening. The Fujitsu Next Generation Cane will be Bluetooth-equipped.

Other items unveiled at the Mobile World Congress were a Wi-Fi coffee machine, a dual-screen Android phone and a power plug that can be controlled with an app.
