Chocolate Marshmallow Eggs Salmonella Withdraws Recall, ‘Does Not Contain Salmonella & Are Safe for Consumption’

Zachary Confections, Inc. Saturday announced that the company's voluntary recalled earlier of Chocolate Covered Marshmallow Eggs for potential Salmonella contamination is now canceled. The Indiana firm shared the candy is safe to eat after all.

The company pulled four of their popular holiday treat on February 27 after an independent test by a third party lab indicated a positive result for salmonella bacteria was discovered, which can cause illness in people.

Zachary Confections initiated the product recall to prevent consumers to reach the contaminated product as it conducted further tests on the marshmallow eggs. Those additional tests returned negative for salmonella.

"Accordingly, all post-production samples of Zachary Chocolate Covered Marshmallow Eggs have now been confirmed not to contain salmonella and are safe for consumption," firm officials said in a press release.  There have been no illnesses reported in connection with the recall.

Zachary Confections recall is an open investigation so the FDA officials could not make a comment on Friday, according to NBC News. However the agency has since removed recall notice from its website.

Officials praised the candy company in conducting an earlier recall efficiently. "We are dedicated to manufacturing wholesome products for our customers," said company's vice president of operations, George Anichini.
