WINNER's Mino Releases Official Apology For Misogynistic Lyrics

WINNER's Song Minho (also known by the stage name Mino) has released his official apology for his lyrics from the third round of Mnet's Show Me The Money 4 third audition round.

On July 11, Show Me The Money 4 aired its third round auditions where contestants went against one another in a rap versus batter. Mino has come under fire for the line "spread your legs like you're at the gynecologists." Many have accused him of being misogynistic and are upset that he would sexualize a place that is dedicated to preserving women's health.

After the Korean Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (KAOG) demanded an official apology from the young rapper, Mino released a post on WINNER's official Facebook page expressing his regret for his actions.

"I feel very sorry for the lyrics I said. As one of the competitors on the show among many rappers I felt pressured to make my lyrics more provocative," he wrote. "Now that the line has been broadcasted I've come to my senses about how wrong the lyric was and how it humiliated and ashamed many people. I apologize sincerely to all those who I have offended and will try my best to make up for this mistake with better music."

YG Entertainment, Mino's agency, and Mnet, the broadcaster airing Show Me The Money, also sent in apologies to KAOG for overlooking the offensive line according to Korea Herald.

On July 14, KAOG released a final statement declaring that they accept the apologies. They hope that Mino's apology in particular will help end biases against medical exams at women's health clinics.
