Chinese Music Program Causes Controversy With EXO's Lay And Tao

Chinese broadcast station Hunan TV has caused a lot of confusion lately with its program Let's Sing Kids, a popular program that gives young children under age 14 the chance to showcase their singing abilities and work with musical artists to improve.

Originally on June 26, EXO's Lay was announced to appear on the show's "celebrities" segment through Hunan TV's Weibo account (via Koreaboo). Then, on July 10 Let's Sing Kids made another Weibo post teasing that a celebrity with the last name "Zhang" will be joining the show's teacher's panel. After the initial announcement, many speculated that this mysterious celebrity would be Lay since his Chinese name is Zhang Yixing.

To further contribute to the speculation, Hunan TV revealed a poster showing three of the four confirmed panelists save for a secret "Zhang XX," whose photo was replaced with a dark shadow.

Yet, despite signs pointing to Lay as the mysterious judge on July 11 it was announced that estranged EXO member Tao will be the fourth music teacher. Though Lay was not officially confirmed as the music teacher, fans were further confused since Tao's last name is not Zhang but Huang (Huang Zitao being his full name). Furthermore, Tao's confirmation comes only one day after "Zhang XX" was teased to the fans.

It is still unclear if Tao replaced Lay on the program. Some speculate that Lay, or another artist named Zhang, will be added to the panel later. Regardless, Tao is set to start filming for the program next week and Lay is still expected to appear on the show's "celebrities" segment as announced in June.
