KCON LA Guest Spotlight: Lindsay Roberts

Continuing our spotlight on various KCON LA guests, we're introducing to you, Lindsay Roberts, "a Southern girl relocated to the West Coast to pursue her interests in East Asian pop culture."

Working for the K-Pop editorial website, Seoulbeats, since 2012, Roberts is currently the site's Head of Social Media.

A fan of Japanese pop and rock since she was in high-school, Roberts says she "fell in love with K-Pop in 2010." It was SHINee's "Hello" music video that hooked her.

"It wasn't the first time I'd ever heard K-Pop but it was the first time I really thought, 'This is something I need in my life.'"

Trying to list her favorite groups she says SHINee remains near the top of the list, "But everything below that gets jumbled because I have a lot of love to give and I give it freely to rookie boy groups on a regular basis. My favorite indie group recently is The Barberettes and my favorite song this summer is GOT7's "Just Right," which I reviewed here."

When asked about K-Dramas, Roberts admits, "I'm not a big drama watcher, but I do love variety shows and "We Got Married" is my guilty pleasure."

Roberts got involved in KCON because of her work at Seoulbeats. She says she enjoys, "the unique perspective that [KCON] gives me on K-Pop and the Hallyu Wave. Not only do I write review of the convention each year afterwards, I also speak on panels during the convention itself!"

This year Roberts will be speaking on both "The Underbelly of Korean Indie Music" and "Let's Talk About: Cross-Cultural Clashes in Hallyu" panels at KCON LA.

This year will be Roberts' third time attending KCON, the first year she attended as a fan while last year she was also a panelist.

"What can I say? It's so much fun, I'm hooked!"

When asked what she's most looking forward to at this year's convention she jokingly answered, "Not getting a sunburn!"

She goes on to elaborate:

"But seriously, I'm looking forward to what I always look forward to: an amazing concert experience and lots of time with my fellow K-Pop fans. KCON creates such a great environment for fans, I enjoy meeting new people every time."

With so much experience at KCON, Roberts has much wisdom to share to those headed to the convention for the first time.

"My advice to new KCON goers is this: Try not to get too wrapped up in chasing idols. I know, I know, you're there to see them and I totally understand, but just remember that there are so many other awesome things to do at KCON, you don't want to spend the entire weekend standing in line. If you're ever at a loss, go watch a panel discussion or do some dancing! There's always something happening. Looking forward to seeing you all there!"
