KCON LA Guest Spotlight: Ashley Griffin

Next to join the ranks of our KCON LA guest spotlight is our very own Ashley Griffin.

Also known as Multifacetedacg, Griffin is a writer, blogger, vlogger and YouTube personality who resides in Houston, Texas. While she's most widely known as a K-Pop YouTuber and Hallyu Vlogger, Griffin is also the owner of an entertainment company, Multifacetedacg Productions, and a co-owner of KpopSkateNight.

Falling into the Hallyu Wave almost three years ago, Griffin remembers the exact moment she was first exposed to Korean entertainment: October 1, 2012.

"I had just relocated from Los Angeles to Houston and was actually seeking out a Japanese anime or drama to watch, when I came across "Faith," starring then-unknown-to-me Lee Min Ho and Kim See Hung."

Noticing the difference in language, Griffin's curiosity was piqued. As she began to look up more about the language she stumbled upon BIGBANG's "Fantastic Baby." Several clicks past brought her to "Bad Boy" and instantly falling for T.O.P.

"I hadn't hadany reactions to groups or artists like that since my middle and high school days! I immediately started researching the music industry-something I had some work experience in within the American industry-and fell in love."

Widely known as an IGOT7, Griffin considers herself a multi-fandom woman.

"I also support virtually any show or movie that Kim Woo Bin appears in [though] I'm much more a fan of the music than the shows-I'm not an avid television watcher!"

This year Griffin will be a moderator for two panels at KCON LA, "Let's Talk About Cross Cultural Clashes in Hallyu" and "The Secret Lives of K-Pop Fans Over 30."

"This is my second time returning to KCON as a special guest, an experience I owe greatly to my fans, the MACGoalas. In 2013, I attended my first KCON and vowed both on Twitter and to myself that I'd be a special guest in two years. Not only did I achieve that honor last year, I will also be a first time MC for two workshops this year! One workshop, "The Oppa Unnie Debate," is a staple of the KCON experience and I'm excited beyond words to entertain attendees!"

When asked what she was most looking forward to at this year's convention, Griffin replied:

"It might sound cheesy, but nothing compares to physically meeting both my fans and new K-Pop and K-Drama fans. The genuine excitement, the feeling of being amongst your community, cannot be beat."

With so much KCON experience, Griffin offers some sage advice to those visiting the convention for the first time:

"Attending KCON is a big experience phsyically, emotionally and financially. It is the largest gathering of fans and the closest most fans will ever come to idols. Be considerate of those in attendance and know that your enthusiasm is mutual. Invest in a portal charger for your cell phone and cameras, a backpack to carry your merchandise, pertinent identification and any extra things that will help you maintain comfort (I'm known for changing shirts at least twice daily, thanks to the Dance ALL Day workshops!). Finally, take pictures like crazy, the memories are worth it! And, if you see one of your faves up close, be respectful of their personal space and either ask to take a selca with them or a picture of them. Have fun and I can't wait to meet you!"
