'Toy Story 4' Director John Lasseter Officially Confirms Woody And Buzz; Latest News and Updates Inside!

Pixar is already developing "Toy Story 4" with the original film's director John Lasseter back at the helm.

Although there are speculations that Pixar would "quietly" introduce a brand-new character lineup for the upcoming installment, the latest official press release confirms that two of the main characters are coming back with their "gang."

"John Lasseter, the director of the original 'Toy Story' and 'Toy Story 2' will direct the film, which opens a new chapter in the lives of Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the 'Toy Story' gang."

Apart from the "Toy Story" movies, Lasseter's resume also includes co-directorial credits in "A Bug's Life" and "Cars."

Walt Disney Company chairman Bob Iger gave the greenlight on the project back in November 2014. He also issued a statement, expressing his delight over Lasseter's return.

"John Created 'Toy Story' and directed the first two films, and it's great to have him back directing one of our most valuable properties," Iger told Entertaiment Weekly.

"We love these characters so much; they are like family to us," Lasseter said in a statement (via First Showing) when the movie got greenlit. "We don't want to do anything with them unless it lives up to or surpasses what's gone before. 'Toy Story 3' ended Woody and Buzz's story with Andy so perfectly that for a long time, we never even talked about doing another 'Toy Story' movie."

"But when Andrew [Stanton], Pete [Docter], Lee [Unkrich], and I came up with this new idea, I just could not stop thinking about it," he added "It was so exciting to me, I knew we had to make this movie-and I wanted to direct it myself."

Rumors of another installment first came in 2011 when Tom Hanks casually said there was another film being developed.

"Toy Story 4" is slated for a June 16, 2016 release.
