Jake Gylenhaal's training program for his latest film "Southpaw," has left fans worried for the actor's well-being.

In an interview by Entertainment Weekly, the movie's director Antoine Fuqua spoke up about how dedicated Gylenhaal is for the film, including the preparations.  

"I watched him vomit in the gym and almost pass out," said the director. "I watched him take hits, gut shots in the ribs, get dropped. He took punches and was swollen for real."

"I'd watch to see if he would stop or drop," he added. "He'd keep going. I pushed Jake to the edge and he went right there with me."

To add to Fuqua's statement about Jake Gyllenhaal's "Southpaw" training program, the actor himself shared some insights about it during a recent interview with CBS.

"I really didn't know much about the techniques," he revealed. "I didn't really know about the sport, really, and I, over five months, out of fear of, you know, feeling like I might look like a fool in the ring, I learned all the techniques."

"We shot the fight sequences the first two and a half weeks of filming," the "Nightcrawler" actor shared. "So I trained like I was training for a fight. The night before, I really was in a mode."

"We did basically a weigh-in like they do weigh-ins in real fights," he continued. "And we went to our respective, you know, rooms before the fight. We had the crowd there. They announced us just like they would in a real fight. And I thought, I'm like, 'I'm gonna beat his a--.' And I was like, 'Oh, wow.'"

As to Fuqua's methods, he said that he did not want Gylenhaal to play the role of a boxer, he wanted him to be a boxer himself.

"He said, 'I want to shoot this like a real fight,'" said Jake. "I want every fight to be shot by the HBO-Showtime cameramen. I want everybody there to be real and everyone from the boxing world."

Since the details about Jake Gylenhaal's "Southpaw" training program has been revealed, the anticipation for the film's release has increased greatly.
