K-Pop Weekly Top 3: Nicki Minaj-Taylor Swift Fued Draws 2NE1 Plagiarism Accusations, Tao Debuts As Soloist, GD&TOP Announce Comeback

This week saw some interesting things happen in the K-pop world, ranging from plagiarism allegations against the filmography of Taylor Swift's music video for "Bad Blood," a growing feud between SM Entertainment and an artist that it says is still under contract, and news of a comeback from a Big Bang subunit.

G-Dragon and T.O.P To Release Music Together For First Time In Five Years

In 2010, GD&TOP thrilled the K-pop world with songs like "High High" and "Knock Out." This week, YG Entertainment announced that the duo would be releasing a song, "Fantastic," on August 5. "Fantastic" is the first song from Big Bang's "E" portion of their multi-month release project, "MADE."

Along with the news that this will be the first song from "MADE" that doesn't include all five members of Big Bang, YG Entertainment revealed that the release date was pushed to August 5 from August 1 because Big Bang would be overseas on the first of the month.

"Bad Blood" Between Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift Draws 2NE1 Into The Mix

A Twitter battle between two of Hollywood's most popular sings inadvertently grew to involve K-pop when a tweet by one K-pop fan went viral; the tweet shared screen captures of Taylor Swift's music video for "Bad Blood" beside screen captures of 2NE1's "Come Back Home." Western media outlets, including Jezebel's The Muse and Billboard, wrote about the similarities and revived previous allegations made by K-pop fans.

On July 22, Joseph Kahn, the director of "Bad Blood," tweeted that he had no idea what people were talking about and that, despite the fact that he was Korean-American, he had never watched 2NE1's music video.

Tao Releases "T.A.O" Debut Mini Album

The estranged member of EXO released his first Chinese mini-album as a soloist this week. Shortly after the teaser video and music video went up on YouTube, SM Entertainment filed copyright complaints and had the videos removed from YouTube. Tao never formally left EXO, and SM Entertainment's previous statements stated that Tao was still in discussions with the company regarding his future.
