E Sens Files Appeal After Sentenced To 1.5 Years In Jail For 2nd Marijuana Offense

South Korean rapper E Sens has reportedly filed an appeal after being sentenced to one and a half years in prison for marijuana use, according to Allkpop.

"I'm going to file an appeal immediately," the rapper told Star News, and his legal camp seeks to shorten the sentence.

His attorney added, "We worked hard to receive a light sentence, but he received a heavy sentence of 1.5 years. It's disappointing that he received a heavy sentence because it was a repeated offense. We will be making an effort to lighten the sentence in the appeal."

On July 22 the Seoul Western District Court handed the sentence of one and a half years in jail to E Sens, whose real name is Kang Min Ho, along with a fine of 550,000 Korean won or roughly $478.

In its sentence reading, the court had said, "He committed this offense while on a probation period for his previous offense, and considering his previous two instances of buying and multiple instances of smoking marijuana, his crime cannot be considered light."

In 2011, E Sens was accused of using marijuana and in 2012 was sentenced to a one year and two months sentence along with two years probation for using. While on probation, the rapper was again caught using in April and was arrested, which then led the court to hand out the new sentence.

"Even while he was being investigated for it, he continued to commit this offense. He does not seem to be regretting his actions either," the court had concluded.
