2NE1's Dara Nabs Lead In Upcoming Korean Remake Of 'Begin Again'

2NE1 member Dara will headline her first movie as the female lead for Echo, the Korean version of the hit 2013 American film Begin Again.

A representative from YG Entertainment confirmed the casting, "Dara recently received the offer to be the female lead in a movie, and her appearance has been confirmed," reports Allkpop.

Dara fans were thrilled at their favorite idol taking on an even bigger role in acting.

"Can't wait for your upcoming movie," "She's slaying everything, she'll slay the haters too," said supportive fans.

But some online commenters were critical of the choice.

"She's not really cut out for acting," "Her voice tone is just not meant for acting," according to comments compiled by Netizenbuzz.

Filming will begin at the end of September with a release eyed for the first half of 2016.

It has also been reported that Echo will not be an exact replica of Begin Again. For example, Dara will be playing the role of a part-time convenience worker. But the main plot seems to have been kept intact as Dara's character will embark on a musical journey.

Rumors are also swirling that girl group SPICA will be making an appearance in the movie.

While a representative from the production crew said that "Dara and SPICA are confirmed to appear in Echo," a representative from B2M Entertainment clarified that "SPICA is up as candidates to appear in the music film. They're not confirmed, but we are in positive talks. There is high possibility that some or all of the members might appear."
