'Attack On Titan' Manga Sells Over 2.5 Million Copies In English

Kodansha USA announced at the 2015 Anime Expo that the English version of Hajime Isayama's "Attack on Titan" manga series has sold over 2.5 million copies. In addition to these copies in print, the first volume has spent 107 weeks on the New York Times manga bestseller list.

So far, fans are responding to the news of "Attack on Titan's" success with excitement, especially given the somewhat difficult industry that is print manga and comic books.

"That is a very good amount. Especially with the way the industry is now, that is a really good amount," said Kadmos1 in an ANN forum

Another fan added that given the competition with comic books, it is very impressive for "Attack on Titan" to sell so many copies.

"Last time DC did a reboot, I remember Dan DiDio saying most of their titles don't even hit 100,000 copies any more, which would suggest that Eren, Levi and Mikasa are bigger draws than Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman, at least in print," said Utsuro no Hako.

Crunchyroll reports "Attack on Titan" volume 17 is scheduled to be released by Kodansha in Japan on December 9. The limited edition version of the manga volume will include nine-type of clear bookmarkers printed with the character's famous lines in various Japanese dialects, along with the first volume of the Kansai-ben dialect version.

"Attack on Titan" fans still have until 2016 before they can expect a second season of the anime adaptation. Otherwise, Funimation has managed to snag rights to the "Attack on Titan" live action movies, with plans to release the films in North America soon.

For those who are somehow not familiar with "Attack on Titan," the story follows humanity's last stand against man-eating giants that have infiltrated the walls that once kept them out. The stand against the titans seems to rely on figuring out the secrets of how the titans first became a reality.
