Did Lakers Center Roy Hibbert Belittled Frank Vogel? Says He Prefers Coach With NBA Experience

Now that the Indiana centers are moving on from the Roy Hibbert era, their former center told reporters that he prefers a coach who is also a former NBA player.

Although he cleared that he has nothing against his former coach, Frank Vogel, he said that a former NBA player would know a player's pain and struggles that is why he is excited to play for current Los Angeles Lakers head coach Byron Scott.

"I wanted to play for a coach who actually played in the league if I had my own choice," Hibbert told David Aldridge of NBA.com via Yahoo Sports. "Not to say that Frank (Vogel) wasn't great. I had some real good times with Frank and we played well. But I told my agent that I possibly wanted to play for a coach that played in the league."

Also, he commended the work former Indiana Pacers assistant coach Brian Shaw did on him and his teammates. He added that it felt like Shaw felt their pain which helped them play less under pressure.

"Just playing for BShaw (Brian Shaw, the Pacers' former associate head coach under Vogel), he went through the things that a player has gone through," Hibbert said. "He had a lot of real good insight to help myself, my game, with other guys on the court."

"He went through those things. And when you had two sets of four games in five nights, he was real with us. He would say, if I'm tired, you're tired. It's not a huge thing, but I'm really lucky to be in this position."

It is a good thing for the Lakers that Hibbert will have this type of mindset once the season begins, but there are other factors Hibbert should consider as well. Will he have a successful first season with the Lakers? Stay tuned.
