'Gentleman' And 'Hangover' Didn't 'Fully Express Psy's Unique Charm' According To His Label CEO Yang Hyun Suk

The unofficial media blackout reportedly placed on K-pop most recognizable international celebrity appears to be lifting.

On Tuesday, various publications began reporting that Mr. Gangnam Style himself, Psy was preparing for a domestic comeback in South Korea after having meetings with YG Entertainment's CEO Yang Hyun Suk.

"For the past two years, Psy was confused of his identity between being a Korean singer or an American singer," said Yang according to Kpop Herald.

"I was experiencing the same thing too. I tried to take into consideration both Korea and the US, when creating the songs 'Gentleman' and 'Hangover' which came after 'Gangnam Style.' But in doing so, I wasn't able to fully express Psy's unique charm and style in these songs."

As a result, Psy will reportedly focus on domestic promotions for the time being.

"More than anything, Psy is expressing his will to promote in Korea first," said a YG rep according to allkpop. "With that in mind, for the past two years the writer's block he previously had is now gone and ideas are flowing in very well."

According to the report, Psy will focus more on performing at events like university festivals, an atmosphere he has great fondness for.

"The time I spent in different places around the world while receiving the treatment of a world star was a good experience," said Psy. "But the time I performed at small university festivals and was in harmony with young people were when I was happiest in my life."

In March, Psy released the Chinese version of his 2005 track, "Father," featuring Chinese concert pianist Lang Lang. The two have previously worked together for the 2014 Incheon Asian Games with his song, "Champion."

Psy's "Gangnam Style" remains the most watched video in YouTube history, with over 2.3 billion views. This feat was honored during the website's 10-year anniversary celebration in April.
