Eric Bellinger Says No Foul Play In Crush's 'Oasis' Controversy

Earlier this month, producer-singer Crush came under fire for allegedly plagiarizing hip-hop artist Eric Bellinger's "Awkward." Not only were Korean netizens pointing out the similarities between the songs, but popular Korean music critic Kang Il Kwon, editor of the popular Korean-American hip hop magazine Rhythmer, also shared his thoughts on the two songs. Kang even called "Oasis" a translated version of "Awkward."

However, on July 24 Eric Bellinger, himself, spoke up on the controversy. "I've been seeing all the 'Awkward/Oasis' tweets... The songs sounded similar, but I don't think it was plagiarism. Keep killin it @crush9422," the American artist wrote on his personal twitter.

While Koreaboo reported that most fans responded positively to Bellinger's tweet, others seem skeptical of the situation. Netizenbuzz translated a series of comments on the issue from various Korean news sites, where fans shared their conflicting opinions on Bellinger's tweet.

"Maybe Amoeba paid him off," one online user commented. "Paid him off, mission accomplished," another agreed.

On the other hand, some users left statements saying, "if the original producer says it's not, then it's not."

Regardless of the controversy, "Oasis" has been one of the hottest songs of the summer. Since its release on July 9, "Oasis" has been dominating online music charts and even overtook top pop act Girls' Generation.
