SM Rookies Receive Backlash As Rumors Spread Of Their Debut

Although new debuts are supposed to bring interest and excitement, it seems like SM Entertainment's soon-to-be released boy group is drawing more criticism than anything else.

Rumors of the SM Rookies' debut date have been circulating around various online sites according to Koreaboo, with a projected debut around September or October. When a report on Pann, a Korean portal site that allows any citizen to create posts for others to interact with, discussing their debut date appeared on July 28 users immediately started expressing their criticism of the group.

Many users commented on SM Rookie's appearance first. "Honestly, their visuals are severely lacking compared to label mate seniors like TVXQ, Super Junior, SHINee, and EXO. They all look like ghostly flower boys," one user said as translated by Netizenbuzz.

Another commented, "TVXQ, SHINee, EXO, and Super Junior are all naturally handsome, but these guys look so plastic? They look unnatural, like their handsomeness was made." While a third declared, "Probably the worst visuals I've seen out of an SM group."

Others forewent discussion of the boys' appearance and brought up SM Rookies' member Taeyong's scamming history, leaving comments like: "Why don't they kick Taeyong out? If someone as young as he was already knew how to scam people, who knows what he'll do when he's older," and, "Wait, so that scammer is debuting for real?"

Though SM Rookies have yet to officially debut, the members have long since been exposed to the public as SM Entertainment's upcoming trainees. Active on social media, SM Rookies promotes its members through YouTube, Facebook, and their own website.

Most recently, part of the SM Rookies team has been appearing on Disney Channel Korea's "The Mickey Mouse Club," hosted by Super Junior's Leeteuk.
