Former Chinese Topp Dogg Sub-Unit Member Cavan Chen Claims Racism, Abuse As Reasons For Departure

K-pop has been no stranger to seeing the departure of Chinese members as of late, especially with the current confusion over Tao's stance in EXO and TASTY's sudden departure from Woollim Entertainment. Most recently, former Under Dogg member Cavan Chen has taken to social media to express his reasons for leaving Stardom Entertainment's boy group.

Cavan Chen, who was better known under his stage name Leon, was a member of Under Dogg, Topp Dogg's sub-unit group, and Topp Dogg G (global), the group that combines both Topp Dogg and Under Dogg for global tours. After his sudden departure from the group, the former member took to his personal Instagram to explain his reasoning for leaving.

"Even though I have kept quiet for a long time, I have a confession. To the people who are curious about my abrupt departure from TD-G (Topp Dogg G) here is my story," Chen wrote on his Instagram as captured by Koreaboo. "As a foreigner in K-Pop I faced a lot of racism and hardships during my time in SE (Stardom Entertainment)."

He continues on to cite verbal abuse and physical assault from a Topp Dogg G member and the Topp Dogg managers as further reasons why he chose to leave.

"I'm not saying SE is a bad company, there were a few staff members and TD family members who are truly great people," he continues in his post. At the end he asks fans for support for his solo promotions as well as Topp Dogg's future activities as well.

Cavan's honesty is refreshing amidst other cases of members leaving with fans left in the dark for a reason why. However, Cavan's post has since been deleted from his Instagram account.
