Hyukoh Respond To Beach Fossils Tweet Noting ‘Sketchy’ Similarities Between Bands' Songs

South Korean indie band Hyukoh has come out with a moving statement that claims their song "Panda Bear" was not plagiarized from a Beach Fossils song titled "Golden Age."

Hyukoh has been hounded with plagiarism accusations, which only intensified this week when a new video comparing "Panda Bear" and "Golden Age" showed similarities between the two songs. Detractors claim this as proof of the band's alleged tendency to plagiarize.

The controversy reached Beach Fossils who then responded on Twitter with a message that "Imitation+flatter=Sketchy! Golden Age + solo smells of Viceroy. Thanks Korean fans 4 heads up."

In response to the growing furor and the Beach Fossils tweet, Hyukoh leader Oh Hyuk wrote a touching personal message that attempts to defend his band's songwriting integrity.

"We've received this kind of mention. I have a conscience and pride regarding my music," began Oh Hyuk in an Instagram post on July 30. "Up until now there hasn't been one moment where I have written songs with bad intentions. My dream is to create music for my entire life, and if I thought that I could receive recognition by copying, I wouldn't have even started music in the first place. I have not plagiarized."

"We're still a new band that hasn't been out a year yet, and without a full album yet, but we've received interest gratefully at a very fast pace. We know ourselves that we are still lacking in many areas. But up till now we have been upright in terms of our music and will be upright from now on too. We would like it if you all kept watching over us," he ended.

In light of the lengthy and sincere explanation from Hyukoh, Beach Fossils released another tweet which makes light of the plagiarism accusations.

"I'm not taking this seriously at all & nobody else should give a shit either. It's just funny! Peace & Love✌" said Beach Fossils on Twitter.

Do you think the plagiarism accusations against Hyukoh will die down given the band's and Beach Fossils' statements?
