Detroit Pistons News: Can Point Guard Reggie Jackson Prove He’s Worth The Money?

Reggie Jackson got his wish granted last season when he was traded by the Oklahoma City Thunder to the Detroit Pistons, and finally being able to step out of Russell Westbrook's shadow.

The move was not an investment for the Pistons, but was clearly a gamble when they signed him to a five-year, $80 million contract. They have Brandon Jennings as their starting point guard while adding Reggie, who made it known to the league that he wants nothing less than being a starter.

Once Jennings returns to the line-up next season, it would be interesting to see how head coach Stan Van Gundy will use both point guards and how will they be able to co-exist.

Last season, Van Gundy spoke with NBA.com's Keith Langlois as he discussed their point in trading for Jackson last season, "We knew as far as for this year that it was a gamble. Just because of continuity, we would've been better off not making moves. We knew that. We thought we could make those moves and still stay right in the playoff race, and we were willing to take that gamble because of what we thought it did for the future."

Fortunately, he showed the management that he was worth trading for as he averaged a decent 17.6 ppg, 9.2 apg, and 4.7 rpg in 27 games donning a Pistons uniform.

Moreover, Ben Golliver of Sports Illustrated  stated the good things to come for Jackson as he will be able to orchestrate a pick-and-roll plays with Andre Drummond, and now that Greg Monroe is no longer there to clog the lanes, he will be able to use the strongest asset in his game which is penetrating.

"Van Gundy has sought to increase the spacing in Detroit's offense, by parting with Josh Smith and Monroe, and Jackson's strength in the two-man game will set up the collapse-and-kick opportunities that keep spread teams in business," Golliver wrote. "Detroit's offensive efficiency was three points better under Jackson than Jennings, and he projects long-term as the more reliable starting option."

Will Reggie Jackson surprise fans next season and prove that he is worth the All-Star money? Stay tuned.
