Prometheus 2 Begins Production, Really; ‘Blade Runner’ Director Ridley Scott Will Produce Prometheus And Alien Sequels

Prometheus 2 begins filming in January 2016. Prometheus 2 was announced last year and a lot of speculation has been going into it. A lot of wrong Prometheus 2 information has been put out there. Much of it by this magazine, but not by me. The Prometheus sequel is going into production.

Prometheus 2 was announced to have a release date of March 4, 2016, but it won't be making that deadline. Scott is producing both Prometheus 2 and Alien 5.

Total Film reported that 77-year-old "Alien" director Ridley Scott will start shooting the Prometheus sequel in January of 2016. Total Film's profile of Scott was for his upcoming film "The Martian."

"I've got back into the sci-fi thing, I kind of adore it," Scott told Total Film magazine.

Alien 5 will be directed by District 9's Neill Blomkamp.

"The beast is done," Scott was reported as saying.

"Cooked. I got lucky meeting Giger all those years ago. It's very hard to repeat that. I just happen to be the one who forced it through because they said it's obscene. They didn't want to do it and I said, 'I want to do it, it's fantastic.' But after four, I think it wears out a little bit. There's only so much snarling you can do. I think you've got to come back with something more interesting. And I think we've found the next step. I thought the Engineers were quite a good start."

The sci-fi feature "The Martian" opens this fall.

The Alien prequel was making it the biggest film in the franchise. It earned $403 million worldwide. The plot for Prometheus 2 is unknown, but Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace are expected to reprise their roles as the android David and scientist Elizabeth Shaw, respectively. Scott already confirmed that the iconic xenomorph will take a back seat to the home planet of the engineers.
