[Breaking] Former Girls' Generation Singer Jessica Jung And SM Entertainment Officially Part Ways

Jessica Jung is no longer an employee of SM Entertainment, announced the Korean entertainment agency on August 6.

SM Entertainment released an official statement regarding the former Girls' Generation member's future in the company, confirming that the two parties will part ways. The short statement alludes to Jung's past at SM Entertainment, and her future outside of the company.

"Please cheer on Jessica, who will start a new beginning," says SM Entertainment's official statement.

Jung debuted as a member of arguably K-pop's most popular girl group Girls' Generation in 2007, as one of the nine original members. In 2014, she left the group to pursue a career as a fashion designer, and has been active in China as an entertainer since leaving Girls' Generation. Since leaving the group, Jung was still an employee signed to SM Entertainment.

"Hello, this is SM Entertainment," says the statement, according to AllKpop. "After discussing with Jessica, who has been an artist under SM Entertainment this past while, we have both decided to go our sport ways for the progress of each. Please cheer on Jessica who will be starting a new beginning."

Jessica also issued her own statement.

Hello, This is Jessica," the statement said. "I would like to let everyone know that I have officially terminated my contract with SM after much discussion. Both parties have decided to officially go on each other's way."

"I cherish all the time I spent with SM and wish the best for the company," Jung continued. "I would like to thank all the fans for your love and support. I will also do my best to live up to my fans expectations. I would like to ask you to watch over my new beginning."

SM Entertainment's short statement gave little information regarding the former Girls' Generation member's future. It is unknown whether Jessica Jung will sign with a new entertainment agency.

Jung's younger sister, Krystal, is a member of another SM Entertainment girl group, f(x).

Since Jessica's departure from the group, Girls' Generation has continued to release music, and will appear at KCON NY this weekend.
