Lead Vocalist Of Broken Valentine Passes Away At 33

Van, the vocalist of the South Korean alternative rock band Broken Valentine, passed away on Monday at the age of 33.

According to Broken Valentine's official Facebook page, Van (Kim Kyung Min) died unexpectedly during an accident. Local news reported that Van died after a drowning accident occurred while he was on vacation with friends. Kim's funeral procession was held on Wednesday.

"Van of Broken Valentine, who has been with us for the past 13 years, died unexpectedly," read the official statement published by the band's label on their official Facebook page on August 3.

Van debuted as a member of the five-member rock band in 2002. After a series of name changes, Broken Valentine became popular in South Korea by appearing on the KBS survival program "Top Band" in 2011. Van was known for playing a large role in the creation of Broken Valentine's songs.

Broken Valentine's latest single was the 2013 release, "Ride." The band is well known for the song "Aluminum."

Solo singer Younha took to Twitter to express her sadness over hearing of the departing of Van. She wrote that she regretted not keeping a promise to have a meal together, and asked people to visit a memorial alter for Van in order to "wish him well in the afterlife."

Fans also wrote heartfelt messages on Broken Valentine's music videos.

"The music world lost a truly talented, beautiful artist," wrote Melissa Samson in the comment section on YouTube for "Aluminum." "May his soul rest in peace."

Broken Valentine had several upcoming shows, and were set to appear at the "Let's Rock Festival" in Seoul on September 19.
