A New York City BOICE Shares Her Awesome Encounter With CNBLUE's Jung Yong Hwa [EXCLUSIVE]

A fan of Korean pop-rock band CNBLUE recently had a unique experience with guitarist and lead singer Jung Yong Hwa while the star was taping a commercial in New York City.

The fan, who has chosen to remain anonymous, had an unforgettable encounter with the musician and actor while he was filming a candy commercial on the Long Island City waterfront. The Queens location has become a prime filming spot for Hollywood programming including "Gossip Girl" and "Sex In the City."

The fan, or BOICE as followers of the group are often called, shared her thoughts on meeting the star, who gained international fame as Kang Shin Woo in the 2009 hit TV drama "You're Beautiful." While it was not a scheduled fan meeting or event, the 26-year-old vocalist and actor took the time to meet with children in the park and gave them candy from the shoot.

Jung is a prominent Korean celebrity who has previously been recognized for his charitable efforts, particularly those involving needy children. The fan, who attended the snowbound January 2014 CNBLUE concert at the Best Buy Theater in Times Square, praised the idol for his kindness.

KpopStarz spoke with this fan to learn more about her encounter with Jung Yong Hwa.

KpopStarz: Can you please describe your experience with meeting Jung Yong Hwa? What was he doing when you met him?

New York BOICE: While visiting New York City, Jung Yong Hwa traveled to the waterfront of Long Island City to film a commercial. The shoot remained relatively uninterrupted by locals, who have seen American television shows like "Gossip Girl" filmed there, in the past. However, I am familiar with his work.

The commercial was most likely for a candy company, as there was a huge basket of candy that was gifted to bystanders when the shoot wrapped. The children who were onlookers did not fail to notice the candy. When he opened the basket and called them over, they were thrilled. This was done by Jung Yong Hwa without any prompting, but with what appeared to be a genuine, good heart, and a love of kids.

KpopStarz: Were there staff members present during your encounter?

New York BOICE: With the encouragement of my friends, I managed to approach Jung Yong Hwa and his staff to request a photo. He and the staff could not have been nicer. He agreed to take a picture and his staff shot a photo for me.

KpopStarz: What are some of your thoughts on Jung Yong Hwa and CNBLUE?

New York BOICE: I have been a fan since first watching his role on "You're Beautiful." I started watching it, years ago, as a way to beef up my Korean skills, after the passing of my mother. Jung Yong Hwa and the members of CNBLUE were my first bias group. Their song, "Alone," was also the first K-pop song that I would play again and again.

KpopStarz: Have you previously seen live performances of CNBLUE?

New York BOICE: I was one of the fans who stood in line for CNBLUE's New York City concert, which was held during one of the worst snowstorms in recent history. Most of us thought that we could brave the snow for them if they were willing to endure the storm to perform for us. The show was amazing, vibrant and alive. Most of us walked away thinking that waiting in the snowstorm was worth the opportunity to hear them live.

KpopStarz: Has this experience changed the way you view Jung Yong Hwa, as a K-pop star?

New York BOICE: It was truly a night to remember. My bias was in my neighborhood. I had the chance to meet him while surrounded by my friends and family. For I can tell other fans of CNBLUE, that he is as nice as he looks and has the nicest crew. My only other words are if you're respectful [of the artists], amazing moments can happen!
