Mnet Slapped With $25,000 Fine Due To WINNER Rapper Mino’s Controversial Lyrics

Mnet has been served a $25,000 fine as punishment for airing lyrics delivered by WINNER rapper Mino on the rap survival show Show Me The Money 4 that some viewers had complained were inappropriate for broadcast, reports Koreaboo.

The South Korean government had doled out the stiffest disciplinary action against Mnet after it aired an episode of Show Me The Money 4 where WINNER Mino delivered a controversial rap.

The Korea Communications Standards Commission previously announced that Mnet will be receiving the highest fine and penalty possible due to the infraction.

According to the law, Mnet would have had to to pay roughly $43,000 USD (50 million Korean won) in relation to the highest disciplinary action, but the actual fine turned out to be less than the maximum fine.

Mino was a contestant on Show Me The Money 4 and in a performance on the July 11 episode, he delivered a line that many consider to be vulgar and misogynistic:

"Mino sniping the girls. Spread your legs like you're at the gynecologist."

With Mnet receiving punishment, critics of Mino had called on the idol to share some of the responsibility. Others also wondered whether the growing controversy will force the producers to remove Mino from the show.

"Those lyrics cannot be accepted. So disgusting," "He has to be responsible for his actions," "To be honest, doesn't he have to be kicked out if it weren't for his agency?" said online commenters.

But Mino's supporters have reasoned that the censors and critics are being overly sensitive with the issue.
