JYJ's Park Yoochun To Enlist At The End Of This Month

A top Korean actor and idol will be enlisting in the Korean military this month.

Park Yoochun, also known as Mickey, a member of the Korean idol group JYJ and a former member of TVXQ, will enlist on Aug. 27. Park's agency, C-JeS Entertainment, revealed that Park will serve as a public service worker, reports the K-pop Herald.

Yoochun will enlist in a private ceremony on Aug. 27, and become the second member of JYJ to begin his required military service, following after Kim Jaejoong.

Due to asthma, Park will fulfill his service at a public office rather than enlist in the Korean army.

"Park's admission ceremony will take place in private on Aug. 27," said C-JeS's rep. "We would like to ask for your kind understandings for the private event. We have made the decision according to the singer's wishes, and the military training center also stated difficulties regarding a press event."

All able-bodied Korean men are required to serve in the military for around two years due to the ongoing threat of North Korea. The two countries have been at war since the signing of an armistice at end of the Korean War in 1953.

Park debuted as a member of TVXQ in 2003. In 2009, he and two other members, Kim Jaejoong and Kim Junsu, left the group and formed JYJ. Park became one of South Korea's most popular up-and-coming actors after appearing in multiple television dramas and films.

His last project prior to entering the military was the drama "The Girl Who Sees Smells" (also known as "Sensory Couple.")
