War Of Words On Twitter Between One Direction Followers And T-ara Fans Gets Ugly Fast

Well, that escalated quickly.

Less than 48 hours after K-pop girl group T-ara knocked UK boy band One Direction out of Billboard's Fan Army Faceoff in the semifinals, the group's fans or "Directioners" took to microblogging website Twitter to blast the entire genre using the hijacked hashtag #WeLove1DAndKpop.

Some K-pop fans, also accused by One Direction fans of rigging the contest, did not react well to this, starting a hashtag of their own, #DirectionersFuneral.

That was when things turned particularly nasty, with those on Team K-pop allegedly referencing the rumor on social media that has circulated since beloved One Direction vocalist Zayn Malik left the group in March, that his reason for departure was to join the terrorist organization ISIS. The conspiracy theory reportedly originated a post on the joke publication BFNN.co.uk.

In a Twitter account that has since been suspended, a person using the handle Die KPOP responded by asserting that Ladies' Code vocalist EunB, tragically killed in a car accident back in September that also took the life of band member RiSe, was "dead in hell."

The #WeLove1DAndKpop quickly became the top trending hashtag and a viral image of a K-pop gravestone along with headstones for the presumably also-out-of-fashion UK acts The Wanted and Naughty Boy.

"The Wanted who?" wrote Twitter user Natalie, whose uses the Twitter account name @Zaynbaabe, on Thursday. "Naughty Boy who? K-pop who?"

Asian Junkie reader Maror44 couldn't believe how quickly One Direction fans escalated the war of words.

"Directioners aren't fighting [T-ara fans] only, they're fighting the whole K-pop fandom," she wrote on Thursday. "They called out almost every K-pop artist and joked about EunB's death. I don't know what they are trying to prove and why they care so much. It turns out that Directioners are more immature than K-pop fans."

Twitter user Yehet is also wondering why the Directioners are worked up about something she feels is a common occurrence.

"Any time a K-pop group is nominated in an international category, we all go hard and vote 24/7," she wrote. "Why are Directioners mad about that?"

But the One Direction fans seemed committed to demonstrate their dominance on social media despite the loss.

"1d fandom--scariest, deadliest, most dedicated, most protective, most powerful." wrote @MarielKaeee of Twitter on Thursday. "We slay."

As for T-ara, they are currently positioned to beat Beyoncé in the Fan Army Faceoff finals, currently leading Queen Bey by over 140,000 votes with four days left in the contest.

No word yet on what Beyoncé fans will do if they lose.
