‘Moana’ Casts Dwayne Johnson As Maui The Demigod; Character Goes On Quest To Find His True Self

Dwayne Johnson will be playing the role of a demigod named Maui in the Disney animated film "Moana," according to a report on Entertainment Weekly.

In April, Johnson announced that he will be joining the world of Disney Animated film, but it was only recently that it was revealed that he will be joining the cast of "Moana," and during the D23 Expo, it was revealed what role the actor will be taking on.

According to SlashFilm, Johnson, who is currently cast in the film adaptation of "Baywatch," will be playing a demigod named Maui in "Moana."

During the D23 Expo, "Moana" was one of the films which were launched and introduced by Disney at the Anaheim Convention Center. Two clips have been shown with regard to the film and the characters which will be featured in the animated film were introduced, including Johnson's Maui.

A report on Cinemablend reveals that the clip shown at the convention discussed the history or legend of Maui. The character is described as a demigod who, with his "great hook," pulled the sun down and from the sky and the great islands from beneath the sea.

The character that Johnson will be taking on, like himself, is covered with tattoos, but the difference is that, Maui's tattoos depict the adventures that he has been through over time. As to his appearance, Maui is featured with dark skin with brown hair and wields a hook that stands as tall as he does.

As to his relation to the titular character Moana, she will be playing a key role in helping the demigod's true self as he is said to be "trapped between two realms," that of the gods and the human world.

Osnat Shrurer will produce the film while Ron Clements and John Musker are slated to helm.
