MC Meta, Choi Sam Criticize 'Show Me The Money' In New Diss Track 'Show Me The Hip-Hop'

In the midst of controversies and government intervention surrounding Mnet's rap competition program Show Me the Money 4, MC Meta and Choi Sam stepped forward to criticize the show's depiction of hip-hop and the precedent it sets for the genre.

On August 7 the duo released their video for "Show Me the Hip Hop" openly criticizing Show Me the Money and how it ignores important elements of hip hop culture. Show Me the Money, and its sister program Unpretty Rapstar are not real hip-hop, the duo expresses through their lyrics. Instead they claim the shows focus solely on money and influences kids in a poor manner.

While filling their video with notorious clips from Show Me the Money 4 including Song Mino's controversial lyric and Black Nut's pulling his pants down, MC Meta and Choi Sam bring to light that the show's contestants are keeping their mouths shut on important matters in Korean society and instead rap about derogatory and often misogynistic topics for the ratings. As hip-hop is a genre that began for artists to air their grievances with society and aim to establish societal change, MC Meta and Choi Sam's lyrics condemning the Show Me the Money contestants for their lack of social commentary hold a lot of weight to them. One especially poignant lyric states, "Youth unemployment raises with the tuition feels while minimum wage does not raise, businesses laugh all they want. There is a lot to say but the rappers have had a taste of money."

MC Meta is a member of Garion, a crew formed in 1998 and known for leading the underground hip-hop scene in Korea. He also has an established solo career. Choi Sam is a female rapper with an impressive number of mixtape tracks under her belt.
