"You're Next" and "The Guest" helmer Adam Wingard has signed in to direct the Hollywood remake of "Death Note."

According to IGN, Wingard, whose resume includes the "V/H/S" series and "The ABC's of Death, will start work on "Death Note" once he wraps up with Lionsgate Pictures' upcoming thriller, "The Woods."

"Iron Man 3" writer Shane Black and "Promised Land" director Gus Van Sant were previously rumored to be working on the film.

Written by Tsunami Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata, the story follows main character Light Yagami, a teenager who comes comes across a mysterious notebook that allows him to kill by writing his victim's name in it.

Other Japanese manga titles set scheduled for a Hollywood remake apart from "Death Note" includes "Robotech" (Sony Pictures), "Ghost In The Shell" (Dreamworks), and "Akira" (Warner Bros.)

"Ghost In The Shell" is already scheduled to start principal photography early next year with "Snow White and the Huntsman" director at the helm and "Lucy" actress Scarlett Johansson starring lead; the movie will release in theaters on March 24, 2017.

Meanwhile, "Furious 7" director James Wan is set to direct "Robotech," while "Daredevil" season 2 showrunner Marco J. Ramirez has been tasked to pen the script for "Akira."
