Beautyplus Video Editing App From China Can Make Anyone Look Like A K-Pop Star

A new beauty app out of China can't turn tech fans into Korean pop music artists, but it can make them look like K-pop stars.

The new Beautyplus video editing app Meipai pulled in 100 million users in China in the first eight months after its launch. It even caught the attention of Facebook's chief product officer Chris Cox, who called it the "Instagram for video" the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.

Meipai is made by Chinese photo app developer Meitu. Technode magazine reported that 5 million daily active users upload about 950,000 videos a day on the site which offers completely new MV special effects

Ethan Dong, the head of the U.S. office of Meipai, and Kaila Yu, community manager of the company, spoke exclusively to KpopStarz about their newest rollout.

Yu is the former lead vocalist of Nylon Pink, the first all-Asian-American pop punk band, which put their spin on countless K-pop covers. The Hallyu aficionado immediately saw the K-pop capabilities of the new app.

"The Beautyplus app helps you easily achieved the wide eyed look of K-pop Stars usually only achieved with plastic surgery," Yu said, referencing a dangerous emerging trend reported in the Hallyu community.

"It also gives you beautiful dewy skin and several other powerful beauty features such as longer legs and face shaping."

"The Beautyplus app helps ordinary people to easily create an enhanced, beautiful look," added Dong.

"The tool is so powerful that it allows you to edit your photos or face to achieve that look of K-pop perfection. The tool is designed to help girls feel their most beautiful and to become their best selves."

The new app isn't specifically called a "K-pop app, it's an app that is made to make women feel beautiful. Its features naturally make you look like a K-pop star," Yu said.

"Since Asian standards are beauty are the same across the globe, the features the app offers of making your eyes big, making your face smaller, your legs longer, and giving you porcelain skin make you look like a K-pop star," she explained.

So what is the Beautyplus app?

"Beautyplus is the most powerful selfie editing app with just one touch of a button. It's one of the top photo-editing apps in Korea," Dong said. "Beautyplus enhances your natural beauty with just one touch of a button. You can select different levels of enhancement from natural to dramatic."

But just how much drama can the new app handle. If the Beautyplus app could turn a regular person into K-pop perfection, what would it do to the real thing? Would the newly unleashed beauty defy the laws of physics?

"It can even enhance the beauty of a K-pop star," Dong said. "K-pop stars usually want to present their best selves to their audience but they can't always be super when taking a selfie."

"With the Beautplus app they can always easily edit their selfies with a click of a button wherever they are. They can share special moments with their fans without worrying about having a full hair and makeup team."

Dong described himself as an enthusiastic K-pop fan.

"Absolutely, BIGBANG, 2NE1, Hyuna, SNSD are my favorites," Dong said. "I am so excited to see CL making the cross over to the United States.

When asked which K-pop star, she thought she most resembled, Kaila Yu paused momentarily.

"CL," she exclaimed, but then cheekily added.

"Our Makeup Plus app does an eyeroll function.
