Vidal Sassoon Disinherits Son: Leaves Adopted Son, David, Out Of Will; Late Sassoon Worth $150 Million

World-renowned hairstylist and fashion legend Vidal Sassoon disinherits son in his will. His adopted son, David, now 41-years-old can be found nowhere in the late and wealthy Sassoon’s will, according to a report by U.K.’s The Mail on Sunday.

Sassoon, who came from humble beginnings in London’s East End and whose distinctive cuts became the symbol of the Swinging Sixties on both sides of the Atlantic, apparently never healed a rift that he had with his adopted American son, which he described as mischievous. Sassoon died of leukemia last May at the age of 84.

He was an estimated 100 million pounds (estimate $150 million) and his will, drawn up two months before his death, was released in the U.K.

The stylist who lived in Los Angeles with fourth wife, Rhonda, left no doubt on his wishes regarding David, whom he adopted when he was three years old.

The will states: “My son David Sassoon and his issue are hereby disinherited and shall take nothing under this will, and for the purpose of the will, shall be deemed to have predeceased me, leaving no surviving issue.”

Sassoon also disinherits former wives Elaine Nations, Beverley Sassoon and Jeannette Sassoon, according to the report, saying they shall “take nothing.”

In a 2010 autobiography, Sassoon reflected on his life with David, and while it was clear he still held him dearly in his heart, the relationship was not an easy one.

He described his son as an “African-American/Asian boy,” suggesting he may have been one of the thousands of babies fathered by US servicemen during the Vietnam War.

Describing his son when he adopted him, “He was a robust, bright little boy with twinkling eyes and an irresistible smile, and I’ll never forget him looking up at us and saying, ‘Are you going to be my new mom and dad?”

However, from the very beginning of his relationship with David, Sassoon says things hadn’t gone smoothly. “He was also quite mischievous. At a fashion party David stood by a window on the second floor and peed out, just missing [talk show host legend’s] Johnny Carson’s head.” Sassoon also cited a time when David set the bed on fire while he was still on it, frightening his other son and David’s brother, Elan.

As David entered adolescence, Sassoon shared the time when a police officer friend called him saying the 13-year-old had been jump-starting cars, driving them a short distance and then abandoning them.

Sharing the efforts they took to help David, “‘David spent a couple of years at a reform school near Sundance, Utah. He came back to Los Angeles but he still didn’t seem to fit in.”

Sassoon admitted in the book he had not seen his son for 18 months following a rift and later said, “There’s a certain point in my character where I feel a situation is hopeless – walk away. Don’t torment yourself constantly.” Sassoon continued, “I walked away.”

The world famous and wealthy stylist keeps a home in Notting Hill, West London and has two surviving children – Elan and Eden; a third child, Catya, died of a drug overdose in 2002.

The Mail reported Sunday that they tried to contact David, but no one can be found at the Los Angeles address shared by his ex-wife Audrey.
