Coaches Of Kyla Ross Criticized For Mishandling Height Growth Before Worlds And Rio?

It's been an emotional rollercoaster ride for Kyla Ross fans after her performances at the 2015 US Gymnastics Championships. But recent comments may not put all the blame on her height growth.

Kyla Ross has been coached by Howie Liang and Jenny Zhang at Gym Max Gymnastics most of her life. And while Ross remains known for her execution and consistency, some are questioning whether the pair are suited to handle her stature.

"Her height has definitely affected her gymnastics," commented YouTuber Tatiana L.

"I was a tall gymnast as well and went through the same things. So many people don't realize she grew over four inches since London. She had to adjust and a lot of skills she could do before become much harder. And from experience, I know Jenny and Howie are not very good with dealing with things like that. They were my coaches as well."

At the 2015 US Gymnastics Championships, Ross suffered two falls with her new dismount for the uneven bars. She also put her hand down on floor exercise and made uncharacteristic mistakes on balance beam and vault during the two-day competition.

The result of that placed her 12th at the end of the competition, straggling far behind the likes of Simone Biles, Aly Raisman and Gabby Douglas.

It wasn't simply her height that got in the way, but injuries as well. Ross reportedly suffered from a bruised heel going into Nationals. She also no longer competes her trademark in-bar skills on uneven bars due to hamstring and back injuries.

Nevertheless, Ross has been named for the list of contenders currently training for the 2015 World Gymnastics Championships, and is still aiming for Rio.

"That really has been what I've been working for all these years after 2012 and I'm really going to push myself that year, especially being able to not have any more school," said Ross to Arabian Punch Front. "To be able to be done with that, I'm really going to put 110% into my gymnastics and gear up for the 2016 season."
