Andrew Garfield Petitioned For Marvel Team Up With Spider-Man; Can’t ‘Save’ ‘Spider-Man’ Films

"The Amazing Spider-Man" star Andrew Garfield reportedly petitioned for Spider-Man to team up with other Marvel characters long before announcements were made about the character's appearance in "Captain America: Civil War," a report on ScreenRant states.

Revelations have been made with regard to the future of the "Spider-Man" film franchise. Marvel has found a new Peter Parker in the person of Tom Holland and the "Vacation" writer duo are also onboard to pen the script.

Other than that, it has been announced months before that Spider-Man will be appearing in the third "Captain America" film.

Now, reports say that Garfield, who formerly portrayed the web-slinging superhero in "The Amazing Spider-Man" films, has petitioned for the character to team up with other Marvel characters in a film long before announcements were made with regard to the characters that would be featured in "Civial War," according to UPROXX.

Speaking with the media outlet, when he was asked if he would be able to enjoy watching the film without him in it, he revealed that he would enjoy the film just the same and stated, "I've been petitioning to hook up with Marvel since the beginning," speaking about the team-up among the Marvel characters in "Civil War."

"I'm glad they're already doing it," Garfield says.

With regard to not being able to continue playing Peter Parker, according to Cinemablend, the actor stated that the subject of changing the cast in the reboot is something that he wouldn't want to talk about publicly, but made amends by saying, "All  can say is that I'm stoked to go and watch a Marvel film of Spider-Man."

As for how he felt about not being able to play the character anymore, another report on ScreenRant states that the actor said he had that moment went his ego inflated after being cast as Peter Parker.

However, he also added that he "cannot rescue" the movie. "I wanted to...not to say that I needed to rescue those films, but I couldn't make them as deep and soulful and life-giving as I could ever dream."

On the other hand, Spider-Man will be appearing in "Captain America: Civil War" and the role will be taken over by Holland.

Garfield will be appearing in a new feature entitled "99 Homes" and in Mel Gibson's World War II "Hacksaw Ridge" where he will be playing the lead role.
