Family Of Late Rock Star Shin Hae Chul Files $1.9 Million Medical Malpractice Lawsuit

The family of late Shin Hae Chul has reportedly sued the 44-year-old doctor indicted on charges of medical malpractice which led to the rock icon's death, reports Koreaboo.

In their lawsuit, the family is arguing negligence on the part of the doctor for not properly treating Shin Hae Chul and is seeking around $1.9 million USD (2.3 billion Korean won) in damages.

The lawsuit was filed after a police investigation found that the doctor was guilty of medical malpractice for failing to provide ample measures that could have saved the singer's life.

The singer underwent surgery on October 17, 2014 but complications from the surgery, which were reportedly waved off as normal by the doctor and hospital, led to his heart attack and subsequent death ten days after his surgery on October 27.

The family had also reportedly filed a separate lawsuit against the hospital in which the singer received surgery and after-surgery care, seeking roughly $16 million in damages but the Seoul Central District Court reportedly turned down the amount since it was more than the hospital was worth.

As the first year death anniversary of Shin Hae Chul nears, it has been announced that his last album will be released posthumously on the October 27, 2015.

There were also plans for a street monument to be erected in the late rock singer's honor.
