Prince’s New Album 'HITNRUN' Release Date Confirmed On Jay Z's Music Streaming Website Tidal

The release date for Prince's new album "HITNRUN" has been confirmed. Prince's first album since 2013 will be released exclusively on Jay Z's music streaming website Tidal.

According to HNGN.com, "HITNRUN" is going to be streaming exclusively on Tidal Sept. 7.

"Tidal is a new company, it's brand new," Prince said of the music-streaming website, according to Ebony.

"They're just getting their footing, and I think when there's a company like that, or the OWN network - situations where we finally get into a position to run things - we all should help. It's been a lot of fun."

Prince hasn't come out with a new album since 2013's "Art Official."

According to co-producer, mixer and engineer Joshua Welton, Prince's new album is experimental.

"I would say it's an experimental Prince record for fans who just don't care about him sounding like a certain thing," said Welton, according to Entertainment Weekly. "I know he has different types of fan bases and this is kind of for the [hardcore] Purple Collective, the ones who say, 'I don't care what he puts out! I love Prince.' And because he's such a creative, it gives him that freedom to say, 'I just want to make music like this today.'"

According to the EW article, Jay Z is happy with Prince's new album "HITNRUN."

"When asked what the rapper-turned-mogul's reaction was to hearing 'HITNRUN' for the first time, Prince and Welton exchange an amused glance, and Welton does his best impression: arms crossed, eyes in an Eastwood squint, head nodding in satisfaction. Hova inspected, Hova approved," EW reporter Leah Greenblatt writes.
