JYJ Jaejoong MBC Drama 'Dr. Jin' To Rebroadcast Soon in Japan

Last year, Kim Jaejoong of the three-member pop group JYJ, excited fans in Korea with his performance in the popular historical drama Dr. Jin. Now Japanese fans will soon have a chance to see him from the comfort of their homes.

DATV, the Japanese Korean entertainment station, posted on their website Wednesday that beginning May 25, they will rebroadcast the Korean drama with Japanese subtitles.

Because Jaejoong is wildly popular in Japan due to his involvement with JYJ as well as his former group TVXQ, the drama already has a huge fanbase in the country despite never before being aired there.

The channel has high expectations for the TV show as it is based on a Japanese manga series, Jin, which follows the story of a talented brain surgeon who suddenly finds himself transported back in time. The original Japanese adaptation was hugely successful in 2009 as was its 2011 sequel.

The Korean version swaps out the Japanese characters for Joseon Dynasty figures with Jaejoong playing the role of a young, love-struck military officer.

The idol's superb performance in Dr. Jin landed him the award for Best New Actor at the 2012 MBC Drama Awards.

This is not the first time the JYJ singer has appeared on the Japanese small screen. His debut acting performance was in Heaven's Postman, a made-for-TV movie about a mail carrier who helps wayward ghosts. The 2009 telecinema was a joint effort between South Korea's SBS and TV Asahi in Japan.

The next year Jaejoong followed up with the Japanese series Sunao ni Narenakute, about a Korean doctor who moves to Japan with his sister.
