DAY6 Debut Marred By Promotional Issues

With a lost of nearly one million views on YouTube, fans of JYP Entertainment's new group DAY6 are concerned about the group's debut promotions.

On Sunday, JYP Entertainment's new idol band DAY6 debuted with the EP "The Day," and the music video for the single, "Congratulations." Within two days, international K-pop fans from around the world had watched the music video for "Congratulations" close to a million times, and then, seemingly without reason, the video was re-uploaded to YouTube, resetting the view count.

DAY6's Junhyeok wrote, and then edited, a list of hashtags on Instagram the hinted to the fact that the removal was not the fault of JYP Entertainment's, but rather a glitch or possible hacking.

Prior to Junhyeok's words, fans commented in droves on YouTube to express their anger towards JYP Entertainment regarding the reset view count, which hurts a new K-pop song's popularity.

Other fans wondered if JYP Entertainment's actions towards DAY6 in general have been less than favorable, with a shorter promotional cycle prior to DAY6's debut than is normal from a large Korean Entertainment agency.

JYP Entertainment did not address the issues regarding the music video.

In regards to the lack of promotions, JYP Entertainment told Korean news outlets that DAY6's band concept makes them different from other idol groups, and so developing their talent and skills is important. Rather than sending DAY6 out into the world with a perfectly synchronized performance, JYP Entertainment's debut of DAY6 is the beginning of a long journey for the band to receive recognition as musicians.

DAY6 will appear on "Yoo Hee Yeol's Sketchbook" for their debut broadcast performance.
