Ex-Girlfriend Of Kim Hyun Joong Gives Birth, Paternity Test To Follow

The ex-girlfriend of Korean star Kim Hyun Joong gave birth this week.

The report comes amidst an ongoing legal battle between Kim, a popular singer-actor, and his ex-girlfriend, known to the media by her surname Choi. The two have been embroiled in several lawsuits, following initial charges of violence against Kim in 2014.

The baby was reportedly born on Sept. 10.

A paternity test is schedule for the baby, due to the ongoing lawsuit.

Choi's legal team released a statement saying that the mother and baby are healthy and receiving appropriate postnatal care.

Kim's agency, Key East Entertainment, said that Choi's lawyer had informed them of the birth but it is unknown if Kim was told, as he is serving his mandatory military service in the Korean military.

Key East confirmed that the stance hasn't changed regarding Kim's plans to take responsibility for the baby if the planned paternity test proves that he is the father.

Choi filed a damages lawsuit against Kim in April, seeking 1.6 billion won ($1.33 million) for Kim's alleged physical violence and their relationship leading to a pregnancy. The two sides plan to continue their suits regardless of the paternity test results.

Kim and Choi dated prior to 2014, when Choi filed charges of physical assault against Kim. The initial case was dropped after Choi received a public apology and a settlement.

The pair reunited later in 2014, and in January Choi informed Kim that she was pregnant. Shen then sued Kim for physiological damage relating to an alleged previous miscarriage caused by the assault in 2014. Kim's defense team counter-sued for defamation.

Kim debuted as the leader of K-pop idol group SS501 in 2005, and shot to stardom with his role in the popular Korean drama "Boys Over Flowers." Prior to enlisting in the Korean military, Kim pursued a career as a soloist and actor following SS501's prolonged hiatus.
