CL Announces Game-Changing 'Lifted' EP As Precursor To American Album

"Hello Bitches" will be the song on every K-pop fan's lips come the release of CL's new album.

In a new interview with Dazed, the K-pop star known as CL (Lee Chaelin) of 2NE1 revealed that her American debut will be heralded by the EP "Lifted," which will debut in the fall, according to Fuse and Idolator. This will be CL's first official solo release in the American music market.

CL described the EP as a sampler to prepare fans for what her full-length album will feature.

"I kept thinking, 'My fans should know here I'm going,'" CL told Dazed. "I didn't want them to be completely confused, because it's not going to be a Korean album."

Based on the song choices for "Lifted," CL's new album will be like nothing the rapper has released before.

The title track of "Lifted" is a rework of Wu-Tang Clan's "Method Man" and Hall and Oates' "Method of Modern Love."

Other songs on the album included "Fallin," co-written by the lyricist of Rhianna's "Bitch Better Have My Money," and described as "moody electro soul," by Dazed.

The EP will also contain a song titled "Hello Bitches." The track was originally meant to be titled "Asian Bitches" and have a remix featuring British artist M.I.A, but CL told Dazed that there were issues with the title of the song.

"We started it then, but I was like, 'Asian Bitches' is too categorized," CL said. "I mean, you can't sing along with 'Asian Bitches,' you know?"

The singer debuted as a member of K-pop girl group 2NE1 under YG Entertainment in 2009, and began preparations for her American debut in 2014. CL has collaborated with several American artists and producers in the past, gaining attention for songs like "Doctor Pepper" and "Dirty Vibe," but "Lifted" will be her first official release in the American music market.

"Lifted" is slated for release this fall, and will be released by Diplo's Mad Decent Label. CL's most recent appearances in the United States were at multiple days of the Mad Decent Block Party tour.
