There has been a lot of speculation about "The X-Files" reboot, scheduled to premiere in January 2016. New set photos reveal some of the final scenes of "The X-Files" reboot and it looks like Mulder (David Duchovny) is a little worse for wear - is he in danger of getting abducted by aliens?

Exclusive principal photography photos were released now that filming for "The X-Files" 2016 reboot has wrapped

Agent Mulder appears to be drenched in blood and sweat, with a black eye and a face covered in stubble and cuts.

On the other hand, Agent Scully (Gillian Anderson) looks prim and proper in a blue pantsuit and her hair done in perfect waves.

Wherever Mulder is, Scully is not!

Though the specific plot of "The X-Files" 2016 reboot is tightly under lock and key, a case related to alien abductions will be integral in reuniting Mulder and Scully after a tough breakup.

Entertainment Weekly previously reported that Mulder and Scully will no longer be working together when "The X-Files" returns on FOX.

Show creator Chris Carter dished on spoilers about the Mulder and Scully split.

"We do it in an interesting way," Carter told The Hollywood Reporter. "We play with that relationship [in the event series]. We put some of the tension back in that was relieved by them being together. It added to the storytelling opportunities."

"It's something that I came up with; I had been thinking about it," he said. "There was always talk of [breaking them up] if we did another movie."

Duchovny addressed the breakup during the Wizard World Comic-Con in Pittsburgh.

"In the beginning of these six episodes, we seem to be estranged," Duchovny said about the Mulder and Scully's relationship in the "X-Files" mini-series reboot. "I don't know where it's going. I really don't know. I'm trying to think [what was] the end of the sixth episode ... It's yet to be determined."

The six-episode FOX special premieres Sunday, January 24, 2016 at 10 p.m.
