K-Pop Acts Dominate Billboard World Albums, Songs Charts

K-pop is keeping its momentum at the top of multiple Billboard charts as international interest in the genre.

Billboard, one of the most globally recognized music magazines, featured K-pop on music charts during the last week of September. Albums and songs by K-pop acts charted on multiple Billboard charts, highlighting the growing momentum of K-pop internationally.

CNBLUE, iKON, Seventeen, and Red Velvet climbed to the top of both Billboard's World Album and World Digital Singles charts for the last week of September and the first week of October.

Red Velvet's song "Dumb Dumb" the big winner, replacing Psy's "Gangnam Style" in the number three spot during the week of Sept. 26 on Billboard's World Digital Songs chart. Psy's song has continually appeared on the chart since its release in 2012, although K-pop songs regularly replace it for a period of time.

The next week, according to Billboard's standards, YG Entertainment's rookie group iKON's pre-debut song "My Type" took the third spot.

Israel Kamakawiwo'Ole's "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" has topped Billboard's world digital song chart for 140 weeks, while the song "Lava", from a Disney short that was shown in theaters prior to "Inside Out" is currently in second place.

Red Velvet also topped Billboard's World Album chart with "The Red: The 1st Album" the week of Sept. 26, and were closely followed by "The Day," the debut album of JYP Entertainment's new idol band, DAY6.

The Oct. 3 World Album chart was topped by Seventeen's "Boys Be" EP, while CNBLUE's "2gether" album also joined Red Velvet and DAY6 in the top ten most popular World Albums.

Korean songs continue to gain attention on Billboard's world charts, with hardly a week going by when at least one K-pop groups or singer isn't featured. Billboard also has a column devoted to Korean music, called K-Town.
