4 Must-Hear Songs To Celebrate 2NE1's 4th Japanese Debut Anniversary

On Sept. 21, 2NE1’s Minzy and CL celebrated the group’s four year anniversary since their debut in Japan with the their first Japanese mini album, “Nolza.” To celebrate, we’ve picked four of 2NE1’s most iconic Japanese songs for your listening pleasure.

“Go Away” (2011)
2NE1’s official Japanese debut song was the English version of their song “Can’t Nobody,” but “Go Away” was 2NE1’s first Japanese single. To herald their debut in Japan, 2NE1 released a new music video for “Go Away,” with a more upbeat plot than the darker Korean version. The song still kept its dance-rock elements and was only minimally changed from the Korean language version. “Go Away” was one of 2NE1’s most successful singles, and sold over 40,000, and was even used as the theme of a Fuji TV show.

“Scream” (2012)
2NE1’s first (and only) original song in Japan was the hyperactive electropop song “Scream,” which was first released as a single in 2012 and appeared as one of the single’s on 2NE1’s first Japanese album, “Collection.” “Scream” is a heavy house dance song inspired by eurodance. Despite it being 2NE1’s first original Japanese song, it’s actually one of 2NE1’s least successful songs in Japan, peaking at #7 on Japan’s Oricon daily singles chart. Since it is 2NE1’s first Japanese song (although it was later released in Korea in Korean,) it would be impermissible to exclude “Scream” from this list.

“I Am The Best” (2011)
Unsurprisingly, 2NE1’s most iconic song “I Am The Best” is the only single of the girl group to have sold over 100,000 copies in Japan, and was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of Japan in 2014.

“Crush” (2014)
Although 2NE1 promoted other songs from the “Crush” album in South Korea, “Crush” was 2NE1’s latest single that they promoted in Japan before going on hiatus. The song did well in Japan, peaking at 36 on Billboard’s Japan Hot 100 chart.
