YG Entertainment Weighs In On iKON's Exclusion From Mnet's Music Show Chart

iKON fans are enraged after discovering the group was not included in Mnet's M!Countdown chart.

When it was revealed that iKON was not include in the show's chart, fans started submitting questions and complaints to the show. Mnet responded through a report by Sports DongA on September 24. "Our chart is a broadcast music chart not a regular music chart. We tend to include songs that are promoted on music shows. As iKON's 'My Type' is not being promoted on music shows it was excluded," the company explained.

They further apologized for causing any confusion and stated they would be more careful regarding their chart system in the future. Mnet also further hedged their decision by saying, "there are cases where we add artists who never promote their songs or cannot promote to do an overseas tour after negotiating with their agency."

Fans were quick to call out Mnet for their behavior, however. "What about Busker Busker?" One iKON fan asked in the article comments, translated by Netizenbuzz.

"How can you exclude a song that has been #1 for days now?" Another questioned. Many more claimed that Mnet was only making excuses.

However, once YG Entertainment weighed in with their own opinion Mnet supporters began to speak up.

In an article with Newsen on September 25, YG entertainment affiliates expressed their own disappointment. "It doesn't make sense that iKON was excluded from the charts. Before this there were songs included that weren't promoted in music shows," YG's side stated. Mnet still hasn't talked with us directly about the issue."

Whether it was due to YG's method of replying or their statement themselves, Korean netizens seemed less willing to support the company. "It says on the Mnet homepage right there that non-promoted songs will be excluded from winning #1," commenters critiqued. "Naul and IU have never media played as if Mnet was being unfair to them while YG is going around putting out articles as if they're purposely being wronged."

Many others called YG Entertainment out for using this as a media ploy.

iKON released their first warm-up track "My Type" on September 15. Since the release, 'My Type" has appeared on charts all over the world.
