Eat Like A K-Pop Star: Top Some French Fries With Kim Kibum

Welcome to this week's 'Eat Like a K-pop Star.' It's the weekly series where we showcase a delicious Korean specialty or something we've seen a K-pop star chowing down on lately and show you how to get or create some food of your own.

Kim Kibum traveled to San Francisco recently, and he chowed down on the snack that may be named for one country but are loved around the world - french fries.

He's not the only K-pop star to be down with the snack:

Now, of course fries are delicious on their own. But it looks like Kim Kibum is the kind of guy who likes to add a little extra kick to his fried, salty potatoes. Want to do the same? Here are some of the best toppings for your fries. They're all made up of relatively accessible ingredients are pretty easy to whip together.

Let's get started. First, start with your basic fry. We won't judge if you want to just pick these up from your local McDonald's, but if you want to go all out with some homemade ones, The Pioneer Woman has a great recipe that doesn't require a deep fryer.

Now how about some toppings?

It looks like Kim Kibum has a basket filled with an herb and cheese mix. It's about as simple as it sounds. Just chop up some fresh herbs - basil and parsley are two great options - and add lots of sea salt and a hard cheese like parmasean or asiago. Need a recipe? How Sweet Eats has a great one.

A trip to Canada wouldn't be complete without poutine. This mix isn't easy on the heart, but it is a super tasty comfort food. Crispy fries are topped with gravy (usually a beef gravy, although vegetarian options are out there, too) and cheese curds so fresh they squeak. The guys at KBD Productions have a great video outlining the poutine process from an authentic Canadian poutinerie.

A slightly lighter, spicier version can be found with Lebanese spiced fries from Heather Christo. They're exploding with flavors from fresh cilantro, peppers, a hint of lime, and za'tar, a Middle Eastern spice mixture that is easy to put together.

Pesto isn't just for pasta anymore. Whisked into salty, greasy fries, it's wonderfully fresh and herby. Plus, it's green, so you can pretend it's healthy. Simply Whisked has a delicious recipe.

You're going to need a napkin if you want to enjoy Masala Chips, the Kenyan favorite that combines a thin but flavorful spiced tomato sauce, cilantro, and lemon. It's ooey gooey and oh-so-delicious. Jikoni Magic has a fantastic how-to:
